College Park Elementary
Title I Parent Involvement Policy
2007-2008

The mission of College Park Elementary School is to provide a safe and nurturing environment for our children to discover the joy and love of learning, and to create a lifelong desire to grow academically, socially, and emotionally. With the support of the staff, family, and community, we promote self-respect as well as respect for other children and adults.

College Park Elementary plans to build strong parental involvement through activities that will be coordinated with PTA, School Planning Council, Early Discoveries, SCA, Partners in Education, Title I, parent volunteers, and the school’s action teams.

The plan will include:

  • Activities to involve parents and families in supporting their child’s learning will include information provided during parent/teacher conferences and scheduled meetings such as: Donuts for Dads, Muffins for Moms, Title I night, Multicultural Night, Bears Program, New Parent Orientation, Fall Festival, Student of the Month Breakfast, Santa's Workshop, Spring Carnival, and PTA Meetings.
  • Ongoing quality two-way communications between parents and teachers will be provided through the regular use of parent conferences, distribution of teacher-parent newsletters, school parent newsletters, Title I newsletters, and Standards newsletters.
  • Parents will be provided with the results of their child’s performance as directed by VBCPS. Methods will include report cards, progress reports, calls from teachers and papers being sent home regularly in the Parent Communication Folder.
  • A School, Teacher, Parent/Guardian, Student Compact has been developed by the School Planning Council and will be distributed to students and parents.
  • Results of assessment devices administered by the division to measure student performance (SOL/Stanford 10) will be provided to parents in writing to include a description as to what the data shows. Additionally, assessment data (such as classroom quizzes, classroom tests, student portfolios, etc.) will be presented to parents during parent/teacher conferences. During these conferences the assessment data will be compared with the students’ work performance.

The effectiveness of the policy to build strong parental involvement will be measured through parent surveys, and evaluation forms that will evaluate the effectiveness of activities and solicit future suggestions.
