COLLEGE PARK ELEMENTARY SCHOOL MISSION STATEMENT
The mission for College Park Elementary School is to provide a safe and nurturing environment for our children to discover the joy and love of learning, and to create a lifelong desire to grow academically, socially, and emotionally. With the support of the staff, family, and community, we promote self-respect, as well as respect for other children and adults.

HISTORY & SPECIAL PROGRAMS
College Park Elementary is located in the Kempsville section of Virginia Beach. The school serves the College Park, Level Green, College Square, and Eastwick neighborhoods. We opened in 1973 and recently celebrated our 30th birthday!
College Park is a Fully Accredited school. There is a great deal of community pride and satisfaction in the accomplishments of the staff, parents, and students at College Park Elementary. At College Park Elementary there is a firm belief that if we “believe we can” and work hard, we will be successful.
Currently fifty-one percent (51%) of our students participate in the Free Lunch program, which qualifies us as a Title 1 school. As a Title 1 school, we continue to seek ways to improve the achievement of our at-risk population of students. Monthly Title I parental involvement meetings are held to help parents work with their child at home and a monthly newsletter is published each month that focuses on reading and math strategies. A comprehensive after school tutoring program has been established for students in grades 3,4, and 5. In a continuous effort to improve the student achievement at College Park Elementary School, a Wednesday School program has also been initiated to provide students with additional opportunities to complete assigned classwork and homework.
We are very excited about the BEAR reading program at College Park Elementary. This is the third year that volunteers from the United Jewish Federation have sponsored a second grade-reading program. College Park is proud of its various school programs, partnerships, honors, and awards. Our Cougar Paw Program serves as an incentive for students who are well behaved. Individual students are recognized each week as well as classes on each grade level. Each quarter we host an Academic Pep Rally. This pep rally recognizes students who have demonstrated academic and behavioral growth. The students and staff at College Park continue to strive for academic excellence.
